What
is a sworn translation? |
A sworn translation is a translation of a document in another
language carried out by a person who is named a sworn translation
by the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Are
there different types of sworn translations? |
No. A sworn translation is the one certified by a sworn translator.
Advertisements may say certified translations etc however these do
not have an official nature and cannot be used as an official document. |
How
can I know that a translation is a sworn translation? |
Sworn translators and interpreters certify the authenticity and
accuracy of the document with their stamp and signature. Every sworn
document will contain a statement certifying the identity of the
sworn translator and that the document is an authentic and accurate
translation of the original. I will give you a new document which
will contain my stamp and signature and which can be used officially
in any public or private organisation. |
Rules
& Regulations of Sworn Translations. |
-Royal Decree 2555/1977 dated 27th August as approved by the
Regulation of the Office of Interpretation of Language of the Ministry
of Foreign Affairs.
-Royal 2002/2009 of the 23rd of December as modified by the Regulation
of the Office of Interpretation of Language of the Ministry of Foreign
Affairs by the Royal Decree 2555/1977 of 27th August.

How do I know if a person is
authorised to make a sworn translation? |
In addition to being appointed and named by the Ministry of Foreign
Affairs, I have an official accreditation which confirms my competence
in the language. Furthermore there is a list published by the Ministry
of Foreign Affairs which is periodically updated, which can be checked
on the following website: http://www.maec.es/ |
When
is it necessary to make a sworn translation of a document? |
When the original document is an official document and the translation
must preserve that official nature. In other circumstances, where
the original document does not have an official nature but you want
the translation to make it official you will need a sworn translation.
Generally speaking if the translation needs to be sent to an official
organisation and the translation needs to be official, you will
need a sworn translation. |
Do
I have to send the original document to the translator? |
Not necessarily. You can send a fax, photocopy or email of the
document but please ensure that the document is legible.

Can
a sworn translation be sent by email? |
| No as it needs the signature and stamp of the sworn translator. |
Can
I present the sworn translation in a different region of Spain? |
Yes because I am recognised as a sworn translator by the Ministry
of Foreign Affairs and therefore it will be valid in all parts of
Spain.

What
if I need a sworn translation from Spanish to English? |
| I am authorised to make a sworn translation from a foreign language
into Spanish and vice versa. |
Are
the prices the same for everyone? |
| Sworn translators and interpreters can freely fix the fee they charge.
